Consider Plate-Based EOAT

Profile-based EOAT is great for some applications, but sometimes a lower cost, lighter weight, and easier to assemble option can be used. To suit these needs, EMI also offers plate-based EOAT.

Typical plate-based EOAT is laser cut from 1/8”, 3/16”, or 1/4” aluminum or 12-gauge stainless steel—standard materials in our inventory. Shown in the following pages of examples, excess weight is removed by material cutouts. Thinner, lighter material can be strengthened by incorporating reinforcing bends.

Other EOAT suppliers generally only offer profile-based and not plate-based EOAT for two reasons:

Effective plate-based EOAT requires more upfront design engineering, which EMI offers without charge but our competitors don’t like to do. Compare the amount and quality of free engineering EMI supplies with a quotation compared to our competitors. We start with a 3-D file such as SolidWorks or a Step file of your part that you provide to us. We then supply you a complete design proposal in 3-D without cost or obligation.

Secondly, they don’t have the equipment. EMI has laser-cutting machinery in our own manufacturing plant that allows us to make plate-based EOAT fast, accurate, and at a low cost.

Call our EOAT engineering department at 216-535-4848 to discuss which is better for your application.

New Compact Air Cylinders

Now there is no need to choose between stability or compactness when selecting a vacuum cylinder. The new OFL vacuum cylinders utilize a through hole in the piston that eliminates the need for bulky manifolds mounted on the rod’s end when connecting vacuum cups. This increased stability also means that the cylinder won’t wear as quickly.

Features:

  • Double-acting with 30mm piston bore
  • Two sensor slots
  • Large thru hole with G1/8 threads on both ends for vacuum fittings
  • Non-rotating
  • 20mm clampable neck

Quick# 6771 (10mm): $109
Quick# 6772 (15mm): $118

For more information about these or other vacuum cylinders, call 216-535-4848 or email sales@emiplastics.com.

Small PIAB Dual Durometer Cups

Many consider these the best performing polyurethane cup available and now they come in smaller sizes! Each non-marking vacuum cup is constructed in two different durometers that make them both strong and flexible. A 60º shore, green bellows section provides pliable support and a large, 30º shore yellow sealing surface that is flexible and performs extremely well on uneven surfaces.

Quick# 5639 (10mm): $5.96
Quick# 5640 (15mm): $7.31

Custom Automation Systems

Sometimes automating your production facility isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition. Automating some facets of the production or packing process while relying on manual labor for others can be the best option.

The system pictured above utilizes a manual packing station as well as an automated elevator and conveyors. Two people pack boxes with bags of pretzels and, when full, send them down the conveyor to the elevator where a photo eye determines if the box should go to the first- or second-level trunkline conveyor. The boxes then travel 125 feet where they are prepared for shipping.

The elevator does two things: it lets the packers use two trunkline conveyors to divide the volume and run faster and it is also more ergonomically friendly than the old system. Previously, the packers were only able to reach the first-level trunkline which was located about shoulder high. This unit gives them the ability to work at waist level and still get boxes onto the two conveyors.

For more information about how EMI can custom design an automation system for you, call 216-535-4848 or email sales@emiplastics.com.
